PolyAnnie also known simply as Poly, is just the most “natural” person I know. This isn’t meant in the usual sense, she is someone who is very in tune with herself, her world, her universe. If you get the chance to interact with her, you’ll understand exactly what I mean. She draws you in with her passion and raw love for what she enjoys, this is also exemplified in her work.

Poly’s overabundance of positive emotions are expressed in her artwork, artwork that she creates with her body. No really, she literally uses her body to make her pieces, just check out her blog on her newest set Portals! A truly stunning collection, strong and powerful, yet inviting…

I truly enjoyed speaking with Poly, my favorite part was when we were discussing the feeling of being on stage. How it’s less of an active involvement, how the mind switches, how your body simply executes what it needs to do; it’s something that can be difficult to explain, but one you can observe through an artist like PolyAnnie 🥰

How do you create artwork that brings out these emotions in others?

The emotion I put into my work comes out in it, my physicality is imbued in the creation I’m making. Performing on stage is when I am at my best, I enter the “flow state”. It’s like I was moving without consciously directing my body to do so. It’s as though a literal switch is flipped when I step on stage… enter that “different space”, it becomes just doing.

I’ve been a performing artist for 14 years, there’s just something about being on stage. I let go and become my most authentic self, this is the me you get in everything I make, my truest form of me.

Question was about researching the “flow state”?

Well, the flow state is essentially when your mind begins a task that it can execute with ease; it’s not too hard, yet it’s not too easy to let your mind wander (like washing dishes, for example). It’s a balance between your ability to do the task at hand and your skill in doing so.

A good example is gaming, each level you need more skills and muscle memory, you acquire and build on these to the point where some things are done without thought yet you’re still actively engaged.

When I was learning hula hooping, which is part of the flow arts like martial arts, dance, etc. The idea of flow state was expressed to me. I did research online, it’s a psychological state that has been researched and written upon.

You and Mother Nature go hand-in-hand for me, so I gotta ask, shrooms?

I have done shrooms and LSD, but I’ve never guided a trip for either of them actually. LSD is a large part of why I am, who I am.

I didn’t even learn about microdosing shrooms until a few years ago. That is a good place to start, in my younger years I was just doing way too much and didn’t realize. Microdosing would be a good way to start, wish I had known about it back then!
